Brandeis Girls and Boys Water Polo teams crushed it in the water winning every match Saturday in the 2018 season opener at the Northside Swim Center. Bronco Girls Polo swam strong with an aggressive passing game in both matches against Taft and Health Careers High Schools resulting in a 12-1 Bronco victory over Taft and 10-3 win against Health Careers. Broncos Junior Magaly Ruiz (#15) scored the first two goals against the Raiders. A tough Broncos defense allowed just seven shots by Raiders with Broncos goalie Ally Bentley (#1) blocking every shot, but one. Led by Brandeis Aquatics Head Coach Megan Perez, Ruiz and Lindsay Robertson (#4) were the top scorers of the girls’ first match of the day. Ruiz powered through the water again against Health Careers with a steal and pass to Salma Dessouky (#6) who scored the first two goals against HCHS. Dessouky and Robertson, top scorers in the second match of the day, pushed Brandeis to a 10-3 win over Health Careers. Brandeis Scorers: Lindsay Robertson (#4) with five goals, followed by Salma Dessouky (#6) with three points, and Magaly Ruiz (#15) with two.
Brandeis Boys Water Polo team hit the water hard against Taft in their first match of the season working to defend their Alamo Cup Championship title and repeat last year’s undefeated run. Grady Wright’s (#13) defensive efforts in the hole forced multiple turnovers giving the Broncos dominance in the pool throughout the match. Wright and Jake Nelms (#10) were top scorers each with four goals followed by Jax Morrow (#22) who nailed another against Taft. Broncos goalie Cade Simecek (#1), known for his high blocks and speed, fought off Taft’s nine attempts to score. Brandeis shut it down with a 9-4 win over the Taft Raiders. Come out to watch the defending champs this Saturday September 8 at the Northside Swim Center as the boys take on SAISD at 9:40am, and Jay/Stevens at 2:40pm. Girls play SAISD at 12:10pm and Jay/Stevens at 4:20pm.
